I have the firm believe that as indie/solo makers doing things the bootstrapped way, having constraints on our time and resources, we need to be creative when it comes to introducing complexity to our products.

Yesterday I started working on the survey content type on Haptic and after spending some time to think it through, I decided to reduce it initially to simply a Poll.

This removes a massive amount of complexity but still adds a lot of value to the end user of the platform - being able to collect feedback in one way or another.

Now, surveys are still on the roadmap, but don't have a due date. I want to spend some time and explore the real need behind such a tool on the platform. What if a poll is enough?

Starting with the simpler option is a wise move, imo.

Another possibility I have to consider is integration with a survey tool, but only if the poll is not enough.

So, yeah, I'm doing the poll now. 😊

That is the way to approach it! Keep it simple, test, iterate, ditch if there is no use for it. :)

Although, I have a challenging question for you, is the poll really needed at this point? Looking at the number of interactions there is at the moment, having here mainly makers, I assume the long-term game is to be able to share your product page with customers so they follow on here, right? Is the poll the thing which will make makers to share Haptic product page with their user base?

I am still looking around, where Haptic fits into my own needs, so far what I am enjoying is the inclusivity amongst the makers, but I think that is not the long-term goal? :)

yahh, this is nice approach. I just had one poll created on twitter and was going to share link here but now I guess i won't need to😄.I can just create one here. Though,I also agree with what marek has pointed out. I have something in mind about this ,I'll share it once i give it a proper thought.

Marek, these are some really good questions. 💯

I like to think of Haptic in terms of:

  • Engagement on the platform (content creation tools, the browse page, etc)
  • Reach outside the platform (marketing, integrations, etc)

What you're talking about is the second one. Indeed, It is the ultimate idea of haptic to provide makers with a product page, kinda like a public product journal. I have plans to allow users to embed their Haptic pages in their own products, and it's one of my next steps, actually. :)

What I'm doing atm is focusing for a while on the first bullet point - the engagement. Providing richer tools to create content.

More or less the engagement unlocks the possibilities of the reach, imo.

But, maybe you're right that I should be focusing more on the reach in the beginning. Nevertheless, I'll finish this feature and continue iterating on the reach part :)

Rutvik, I'll be happy to hear your thoughts and ideas once give them a proper thought. ;)

Boris, no worries, I am most likely not right, take my words with a grain of salt. :) You have your vision for the product and it is quite early.

You had a valid point, Marek. Thanks for making me think about my priorities ;)

Yeah I could see surveys being its own huge project anyways because it comes at the cost of figuring out everything that comes with it: validation, reporting, storage, dynamic fields, architecting it, public/backend views etc. Poll is the right move right now…

Do you have any thoughts on exposing haptic beyond just builders? Like, I think some of the stuff I post here would be useful on other social media platforms and also e-mail… not sure what it would look like - mailchimp integration? I dunno…

One possibility is a subscription form for a product page. Much like a newsletter. But I see such a feature at a later stage of the product, once I have more content types developed.

Still rough idea. :)

The other thing is embedding Haptic's product pages in your own site/app. This is something I plan to do soon.
